Abbeycroft Leisure

Award winning Abbeycroft Leisure is the largest charitable leisure trust in Suffolk. Established in 2005, the trust achieved the Social Enterprise Mark award in 2010. As a leisure trust and social enterprise, Abbeycroft Leisure ploughs all profits made back into providing health, fitness and wellbeing for the community.

Abbeycroft Leisure manages a number of sites across West Suffolk; Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Brandon Leisure Centres along with Mildenhall Swimming Pool, The Dome, Mildenhall and the Gym Mildenhall. The trust also works in partnership with Thurston Community College to manage Thurston Sport Education Centre and the Port of Felixstowe to manage its Fitness Studio. In additon, Abbeycroft also owns and manages budget gym The Gym Ipswich and health and wellbeing sanctuary The Self Centre in Bury St Edmunds, with two new sites opening over the next six months.

Abbeycroft Leisure also delivers a number of events to the community, in partnership with Suffolk County Council and other local partners. These events include Sport Relief, the St Edmundsbury Sports Awards, the Forest Heath Sports Awards and the UK StreetVelodrome Series.

Suffolk Saxons is the first professional sports team launched by Abbeycroft Leisure and this exciting new challenge will allow Abbeycroft Leisure and its partners to promote badminton in the local community by showcasing elite badminton in Suffolk for the first time.

Suffolk County Council

Suffolk County Council recognises the importance of harnessing the power of major sporting events and elite athletes to help drive community level participation in sport and physical activity. In the lead-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Suffolk County Council brought together key partners to work collaboratively to plan for and to deliver legacy outcomes. Today these partners are still united in our long-term ambition to be the most active county in England.

With this ambition at its heart we are committed to working with our partners to help deliver, through the Suffolk Saxons, a fantastic elite badminton experience that engages and inspires the whole Suffolk community and helps to grow participation in the game in Suffolk.
